How to get prescription sunglasses from Aura Shades

We handle prescription orders manually, one customer at a time. It is not a checkout item, because getting the lens spec and the frame pairing right matters more than making it fast. Four steps:

  1. Choose your frame. Pick any style from our Sunglasses Singapore range. If you are unsure which frame suits a stronger prescription, ask us first and we will point you to the ones that work best.
  2. Send your prescription over WhatsApp. Message +65 8490 4847 with a clear photo or scan of your current optometrist prescription. WhatsApp is the only channel we accept prescriptions through, so nothing gets lost between inboxes.
  3. We confirm lens options and pricing. We come back to you with the lens types available for your prescription strength and the price.
  4. Production and delivery. Once you confirm, your pair is made to order and delivered anywhere in Singapore in around 4 weeks.

Your prescription should be current. Most optometrists in Singapore recommend an eye test every one to two years, and an out-of-date prescription is the most common reason a custom pair does not feel right. Worth factoring the 4 week build time in if you need them for a specific race, trip or event.

How to read your spectacle prescription

If you are looking at your prescription and it means nothing to you, this is the short version of what each field does. You do not need to understand it to order, but it helps to know what you are sending us.

Field What it means
OD / OS Right eye (OD) and left eye (OS). Some prescriptions just say R and L.
SPH (Sphere) The main correction strength. A minus figure means short-sighted, a plus figure means long-sighted.
CYL (Cylinder) Astigmatism correction. If this is blank or zero, you do not have astigmatism.
AXIS The orientation of the astigmatism correction, from 1 to 180. Only appears if you have a CYL value.
PD Pupillary distance, the gap between your pupils in millimetres. Needed to centre the lenses correctly. If it is missing, ask your optometrist.
ADD Reading addition, used for progressive and bifocal lenses. We do not currently fit these, so an ADD value means we cannot match that prescription.

Send us the whole prescription rather than typing out the numbers. A photo removes the risk of a transcription error, and a wrong digit means a wrong lens.

What we do and do not offer

Being straight about the limits saves everyone time.

What we do:

  • Single vision prescription lenses fitted into any Aura Shades frame
  • Polarised prescription lenses, which cut glare off roads, water and glass
  • Photochromic prescription lenses that adapt as the light changes
  • UV400 protection on every lens we make, prescription or not
  • Personal support over WhatsApp from our own team, no call centre and no bots

What we do not offer:

  • Progressive, bifocal or multifocal lenses. If your prescription has an ADD value, we cannot match it.
  • Eye tests. Bring us a current prescription from your own optometrist.
  • Prescription inserts as standard. Our frames do not include a prescription insert by default, so the lenses are fitted directly.
  • Instant checkout or fast turnaround. Prescription orders are quoted, confirmed, then made to order over around 4 weeks.

Which frames work best with prescription lenses

Any frame in the range can take prescription lenses, but a few practical notes. Wraparound sports frames curve more, which suits mild to moderate prescriptions well and gets harder as strength increases. Flatter frames handle stronger prescriptions more comfortably. If your prescription is on the stronger side, message us before you settle on a frame and we will tell you honestly which ones will work.

Worth browsing: our Polarised Sunglasses range if glare is your main problem, Photochromic Sunglasses Singapore if you move between indoors and bright sun, or Sports Sunglasses Singapore if you need them to stay put while you move.

Why pricing is quoted per order

We do not publish a flat price for prescription lenses because the honest answer is that it depends. Lens cost varies with your prescription strength, whether you want polarised or photochromic, and the frame you have chosen. Quoting a single number would mean either overcharging the simple cases or under-quoting the complex ones.

Message us your prescription and the frame you like, and you will get a real number back rather than a range. No obligation, and no pressure if it is not what you hoped.

Prescription sunglasses FAQ

Can you put prescription lenses in sunglasses?

Yes. Aura Shades fits single vision prescription lenses into any frame in our range, with polarised, photochromic or standard tint options. Send your prescription to +65 8490 4847 on WhatsApp to start.

How long do prescription sunglasses take?

Around 4 weeks from the point you confirm your order. Each pair is made to order rather than pulled off a shelf, so if you need them for a specific race, holiday or event, send your prescription at least a month ahead.

How much do prescription sunglasses cost in Singapore?

We quote per order rather than publishing a flat price, because cost depends on your prescription strength, the lens type you choose and the frame. Message us your prescription and frame choice and we will give you an exact figure.

How do I send Aura Shades my prescription?

WhatsApp only, to +65 8490 4847. Send a clear photo or scan of your current optometrist prescription. We do not accept prescriptions by email, so nothing gets missed.

Do you offer progressive or bifocal prescription sunglasses?

No. We currently fit single vision lenses only. If your prescription includes an ADD value, that indicates a progressive or bifocal prescription and we will not be able to match it.

Are prescription lenses polarised and UV400?

Every lens we make is UV400, prescription or not. Polarised and photochromic are both available as prescription options, and we will confirm which suit your prescription strength when we quote you.

Do I need a current prescription?

Yes. Send a current prescription from your optometrist. We do not carry out eye tests. An out-of-date prescription is the most common reason a custom pair does not feel right once it arrives.

Which frames suit stronger prescriptions?

Flatter frames generally handle stronger prescriptions better than heavily curved wraparound sports frames. Message us before you choose and we will tell you honestly which frames in the range will work for your prescription.
